Artisterium 2017 opens in Tbilisi

Artisterium 2017 – Tbilisi is hosting the international modern art exhibition for already the tenth time. Visitors will have the opportunity to view the works of Georgian and foreign artisans at “Karvasla” exhibition space. Foreign artisans represent the US, Great Britain, South Korea, Germany, Finland, Greece and Japan. The exhibition will continue till November 14.

Festival dedicated to Opera Studio jubilee

A festival dedicated to the 65th jubilee of opera Studio was opened at Tbilisi State Conservatoire. World known and Georgian opera singers took part in the gala concert. Former pupils of the studio performed together with conservatoire students. Opera Studio will present Donizetti's The Elixir of Love on November 6. Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata will be on stage on November 12. The Opera Studio presented Abesalom and Eteri, opera by Zakaria Paliashvili first in 1952.

Tbilisi Jazz Festival begins

The Tbilisi 20th Jazz Festival was opened with a concert of Tower of Power, an American R&B-based horn section and band. Well-known music hits and new compositions were performed.The second day of the festival will be dedicated to Joe Lovano, Saxophonist and composer. Georgian young performer Papuna Sharikadze and legendary Stanley Clarke and his band will perform for the audience on the last day of the festival.

Georgian film “8 Minutes” may be nominee of Oscars

The Georgian film “8 Minutes” may become a nominee for Oscars. The film will compete in the short-film category. Five films will be selected in the category by the jury. The film is about apocalypses – It will take 8 minutes to disappear sun rays from the earth. The film is directed by Giorgi Gogichaishvili, Dato Abramishvili; the scenario belongs to Mari Beqauri, Zaza Koshkadze; producers of the fim are Gega Khmaladze, Magda Datuashvili; the main parts are acted by Ani Bebia, Giorgi Sharvashidze and Slava Natenadze.

Representatives of the mass media, who wish to receive accreditation for 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) should undergo through registration at www.eurovisionfamily.tv till October 27 (12:00 CET).Note that accreditation does not mean a ticket for the concert. The accredited journalists will have the right to work and move about only the indicated and permitted zone. Georgia is hosting the 15th JESC this year after having won the competition three times. Tbilisi Olympic Palace will host the 15th JESC on November 26. Young singers from 16 European countries will arrive in Tbilisi on the occasion of the musical competition.

The journalists arrived at the invitation of Tourism National Administration.Georgia is hosting the 15th JESC this year after having won the competition three times. Tbilisi Olympic Palace will host the 15th JESC on November 26.  Young singers from 16 European countries will arrive in Tbilisi on the occasion of the musical competition. Georgia won the right to host the competition after Mariam Mamadashvili won 2016 JESC in Malta.

First Channel working on stage version of Georgian JESC contender’s entry song

First Channel of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) is working on a stage version of an entry song of Georgian participant at Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC). Grigol Kipshidze, Georgian participant of 2017 JESC will perform the song by composer Giga Kukhianidze at the competition. The premiere of the song will be held in several days. Georgia is hosting the 15th JESC this year after having won the competition three times. Tbilisi Olympic Palace will host the 15th JESC on November 26. Young singers from 16 European countries will arrive in Tbilisi on the occasion of the musical competition. Georgia won the right to host the competition after Mariam Mamadashvili won 2016 JESC in Malta.

Minsk announced as the host city for Junior Eurovision 2018

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Belarusian national broadcaster (BTRC) have announced that Belarus will host the 16th Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) in 2018 in Minsk!2018 will be the second time that Junior Eurovision will take place in Minsk, following BTRC’s hosting of the show in the Belarusian capital in 2010.To ensure the longevity of the Contest and allow more time to prepare the event, the Junior Eurovision Steering Group decided to remove a clause in the Rules that gave the winning broadcaster first refusal to host. EBU Members were given the opportunity to apply to host Junior Eurovision 2018 and the application from Belarus was judged to be the best.Belarus has taken part in every Junior Eurovision Song Contest since the competition was created in 2003. The country has a very successful record at Junior Eurovision, winning in both 2005 with Ksenia Sitnik and 2007 with Alexey Zhigalkovich.Source: junioreurovision

Actress Lika Kavzharadze buried

Georgian actress Lika Kavzharadze was buried today at Vake Cemetery in Tbilisi next to her mother. Her body was transferred to the cemetery from Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral. Pubic funeral was held at Sameba earlier this afternoon. Family members, colleagues and politicians attended the public funeralKavzharadze died on October 11 at the age of 57. She acted in more than 20 films. Kavzharadze became very popular for her leading part as Marita in the film “Wish Tree” shot by Tengiz Abuladze in 1976.

Selection of children for mega-show “Ranina” launched

Selection of children aged 8-13 for a new mega-show of First Channel “Ranina” has been launched starting today. The casting will be held on October 14-15 at #68 Kostava Street in Tbilisi, building of First Channel. Contenders will have to show up from 12:00 to 17:00. “Ranina” is a singing competition. Young contenders will be performing on a big stage together with orchestra, band and well-known singers during 3 months. The winner will present Georgia at 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC).
