Twenty musicians performed the music Fatal Mistake created for the Georgian comics on stage of Marjanishvili Theater last evening. American composer Olajide Paris, Iranian composer Frasa Shomali and Georgian musicians Davit Toradze and Levan Bagrationi-Davitashvili created the music in 2 weeks.
Rehabilitation of historic house suspended

Rehabilitation of a historic house located at #34 Shalva Dadiani Street in Tbilisi has been suspended with undetermined term. Reconstruction works had to be completed in 2016. However, the works stopped several months after launching and a new tender was announced. The rehabilitation project of the house having cultural heritage status belongs to Icomos Georgia. Tbilisi Development Fund announced the new tender.
Ballet Festival to be held in Tbilisi

Ballet Festival has been founded at Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater. Different ballet troupes of world countries, members of Georgian ballet group and Georgian dancers leading their activities abroad will take part in the festival. Netherlands Dance Theater 2 will be a special guest of the festival, which will be wrapped on July 2 by a gala-concert with participation of prima ballerina Nino Ananiashvili.
International Literature Festival in Tbilisi

The Third International Literature Festival is being held at Writers House in Tbilisi. The event was opened with a literature evening of Katja Lange-Müller, German writer. Twenty-three representatives from 17 countries arrived in Tbilisi for the festival including German authors and publishers. Meetings about literature will continue till June 3.

International Book Festival in Tbilisi

The 19th International Book Festival is ongoing at ExpoGeorgia fairgrounds in Tbilisi. It was opened on May 25 and will be closed on May 28. Products of about 60 publishing houses are presented and various cultural and educational activities are being held. Some authors are introducing their work to the readers. The focus country this year is Norway.

Independence Day is celebrated in Georgia on May 26. Georgia has been marking the day of restoration independence for 26 years since following the fall of the Soviet Union. After Georgia's declaration of independence on 9 April 1991, the government set on 26 May 1991 Georgia's first presidential election, which was won by Zviad Gamsakhurdia. It commemorates the 26 May 1918 adoption of the Act of Independence, which established the Democratic Republic of Georgia in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917. This year activities organized on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day were also dedicated to the 850th jubilee of Shota Rustaveli and his poem “Knight in the Panther’s Skin.” All events responded to the concept “I am from country of Rustaveli.” Solemn activities were held throughout the day both in Tbilisi and different regions of Georgia. The epicenters of main activities in Tbilisi were Rustaveli Avenue and Liberty Square. More than 300 newly-summoned military servicemen took oath at Liberty Square today. Ministries were represented with their pavilions. Celebrative activities took place in different cities. Georgia received congratulation messages from world leaders. A gala concert with participation of pop and opera singers and National Symphonic Orchestra will wrap up the solemn activities. The concert at Rose Square will begin at 21:00.

An exhibition is being held at National Museum on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day marked on May 26, this year, dedicated to the 850th jubilee of Shota Rustaveli and his poem “Knight in the Panther’s Skin.” Translations of the poem into 51 languages are at display. Three art cafes are allocated at central Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi aside of booths and pavilions arranged on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. Actors will read out different passages from “Knight in the Panther’s Skin” a poem by Shota Rustaveli. An exhibition of works on the topic of the poem by Ketevan Matabeli, a Georgian painter and graphic artist, will be held at the pavilion of Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection.

A Gala-Concert dedicated to the 100th jubilee of Tbilisi State Conservatoire will be held on May 25 at Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theater. The concert will be also held on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. Graduates of musical institutions and laureates of international competitions and festivals as well as Georgian musicians leading their activities abroad will participate in the concert. The Tbilisi Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatoire turned 100 on May 1. The jubilee festival lasted during one month.

The premiere of “Jupiter’s Moon” of Hungarian film-maker Kornél Mundruczó was held at Cannes 2017 Film Festival. Georgian actor Merab Ninidze plays the main part in the film. The film is about the story of a Syrian refugee from Homs who is trying to make his way into Hungary from Serbia, along with his father and many other wretched souls. They are all caught, and find themselves in a web of cynicism and corruption.

The play “12 Angry Men,” a 1957 American courtroom drama film adapted from a teleplay, with participation of prisoners was held on stage of Rustaveli Theater last evening. The play unites 18 inmates including foreigners. The scenery and music were produced by prisoners. The theater troupe was established at #17 Penitentiary Facility. Prime Minister, governmental members and Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude attended the play.

Cannes Film Festival 2017 will be held from May 17 to May 28. The Spanish film director and screenwriter, Pedro Almodovar, will preside as the President of the Jury and actress Monica Bellucci will host the opening and closing ceremonies. This year, the film lineup includes 49 films from 29 countries. Titans of the industry will be throwing their name in for the coveted Palme d’Or prize including Sofia Coppola, Noah Baumbach, Todd Haynes, Michael Haneke, and Michel Hazanavicius. The festival will even feature television shows, though they will not be part of the competition. The second season of “Top of the Lake” by Jane Campion and a few episodes of David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” revival series will also be previewed.
