The Mtskheta Regional Court will make the decision over the election related dispute in Tianeti following the October 21 local self-governance elections on October 25. Who won the elections for Mayoral Post in Tianeti - Tamaz Mechiauri or Lela Kitesashvili? Tamaz Mechiauri, Leader of For United Georgia Party filed a complaint in Mtskheta Court. Mechiauri demands annulations of the decision made by Regional Election Constituency, namely declaration of 5 votes ascribed to Georgian Dream candidate as null and void. The commission declared that the candidate of the ruling party won in the elections with 4 votes. The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) will defend interests of Tianeti mayoral candidate Tamaz Mechiauri, who is disputing the decision of the Tianeti election commission to reinstate void ballot papers. Ana Natsvlishvili, chairman of the Georgian Young Lawyers' Association, said the results have been changed. "The Georgian Young Lawyers' Association got involved in the dispute and represents the interests of Mr. Tamaz Mechiauri, as the results of the local self-government elections in the Tianeti region, as confirmed by the facts, have been changed by interference. We think that there were serious violations of the electoral legislation and alleged criminal offense. Therefore, today we’re filing a suit with the court and we are asking for annulment of the two orders passed by the Tianeti election commission. We also appeal to the Prosecutor's Office to get interested in these facts,” Natsvlishvili said.

Results of 2017 self-governance elections

The newly elected Mayors and City Councils (Sakrebulos) will start working from the second half of November. According to preliminary results of the elections, in the mayoral races, Georgian Dream won in the first round in four out of five self-governing cities, including Tbilisi.  The exception is Kutaisi, where the second round of elections will be held. The six constituencies are preparing for runoff.As for the proportional system, Georgian Dream is winning in the 64 municipalities; the ruling party's candidates are also leading in the majoritarian elections. Central Election Commission has already counted 3 644 precincts. In addition, eight days are left for considering the complaints.

71 local and 30 international organizations will monitor the local self-governance elections in Georgia  to be held on October 21. The voters will elect 2 058 members of city councils and 64 mayors tomorrow.According to the Central Election Commission, 22 political parties, five election blocs, and one initiative group are registered for the local elections, and 200 initiative groups are registered by District Election Commissions (DEC).369 mayoral candidates are registered, including 13 in Tbilisi for upcoming elections.
