Voting for selection of architecture design of First Channel building ongoing

The voting process for selection of an architecture design of building of First Channel has been launched. The broadcaster announced the competition on August 8. Three companies expressed willingness to participate in the competition: BWC, “Tbilqalaqproject” and Art-Studio-Project LTD. “For the first time, the winner project will be revealed by people. First Channel belongs to the public and it is upon them to make the decision. Involvement of every person in the voting process is important,” Vasil Maghlaperidze, General Director of First Channel stated. Voting is possible through Facebook and web-page 1tv.ge every 12 hours. Three designs can be viewed on the web-site. Results of the survey will become on October 13. First Channel will have had the new building provided with up-to-date equipment and inventory by 2020.

Koba Davitashvili puts responsibility of his physical assault on ex-president

Koba Davitashvili, oppositional politician and former Member of Parliament, puts responsibility of his physical assault and abduction in 2007 on ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili and demands him to be tried for the crime. Davitashvili was brought to questioning to the court hall sit in a wheel-chair today. He recalled the hardest day of his political biography – November 7, 2007 and remembered the details of attack. The court found the events taking back 10 years ago and violent crackdown of the large-scale protest as emotional. “It was neither detention, nor arrest. It was an assault. The individuals in semi-military uniforms directly attacked me with metal sticks. They did not allow me to explain anything. Up to ten people beat me when I was lying on the ground. I said when being questioned first – I think it was arranged by Mikheil Saakashvili. It is related to my entry in the parliament building when the meeting was dismantled on November 7 and special squad sprayed gas around… I offered Nino Burjanadze to start a dialogue as the High Commander was insane and planned to arrange the April 9 again. It seemed Saakashvili thought Nino Burjanadze and I were planning a riot,’ Davitashvili stated. Former Justice Minister Zurab Adeishvili is charged into the politician’s beating case. Davitashvili’s case is one of the high-profile ones in modern history.

Locals of Kvakhvreli village block road in protest of potable water supply limitation

Several districts of Kobuleti resort flooded

Several districts of Kobuleti resort of Adjara region were flooded as a result of heavy rain. Officers of Emergency Situations Department worked in effort to pump out the water from ground floors of about 30 houses during the whole night. Locals of Gulauri settlement and Rustaveli and Javakhishvili Streets faced problems. Locals complained about improper drainage channels. Landslides hit several villages. The situation is stable in Kobuleti at present though it continues raining.

“I would like to thank everybody who came here and paid money for the tickets,” Kakha Kaladze, former football player and current candidate for post of Tbilisi Mayor told journalists after the charitable football match with the participation of world stars. "This money will be spent on restoration of the forest in the Borjomi Gorge. I think the fans are happy too," Kaladze said.The charity match organized in at Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi ended 6-5 in favor of the World XI team versus GFF XI. The match was organized to help Georgia restore the Borjomi forest that was recently hit by fire. A total of 403, 214 GEL will be spent on restoration of the burnt forest.

Tbilisi Sakrebulo changes zonal status to 2 land plots in Tbilisi – Noisy sitting ends in conflict

The controversial issue of changing the zonal statuses to two land plots in Tbilisi has been approved at the sitting of Sakrebulo (City Assembly). The sitting proceeded under the background of dispute and ended in conflict. Members of Environment Protection and Urban Planning Commissions considered the possibility of transferring the land-plots of Pushkin Square and Tabori Mount in hands of Panorama Company, owned by former Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili. Tbilisi Mayoral candidates of oppositional parties and their co-mates tried to breach the working agenda of Sakrebulo. Members of National Movement and European Georgia parties insisted on adjournment of the sitting. Patrol police were called at site when the situation turned to the tense. Security service officers ordered the National Movement and European Georgia leaders to leave the place allocated for journalists at the Tbilisi City Council Session. The Oppositional members left the sitting in protest.
