GPB applies to parliament with proposals

The Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) applies to the parliament with the package of changes proposed to be made into legislation. GPB demands making of amendments in purchase and advertising regulations for its development. MP Davit Matikashvili, who is the member of a group working on legislative changes, does not rule out discussions over the rule oფ election of GPB Director General. Irina Putkaradze, a member of GPB Board of Trustees presumes that the initiative is not put on the working agenda of the working group and stresses on proposals presented by the broadcaster.

Construction of main part of clinic completed in Rukhi

The main part of the medical clinic has already been built in Rukhi village, Samegrelo region. Locals of nearby village and those residing across the occupied line with Abkhazia region will be able to use medical service of international standards. The multi-profile clinic provided with up-to-date equipment is envisaged for up to 220 patients. Construction of University clinic began in August, 2014. Davit Sergeenko, Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs inspected ongoing construction works.

Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili has pardoned convicts of the so-called Cables Case - the former officials of Defense Ministry.Pikria Chikhradze, Political Secretary of President made the regarding statement today.Political Secretary considers that the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges properly at any stage of the proceedings, which caused acute reactions from the Georgian as well as the international communities.According to Appeals Court’s decision the charges against 5 former officials of Defense Ministry were re-qualified under the Article 332 of Criminal Code and they were sentenced to imprisonment for a year and 6 months, meaning that they will leave prison in two months. Appeals Court announced verdict yesterday.  The Appeals Court held discussions over the complaint filed into so-called Cables Case. Lawyers complained against the verdict made by Tbilisi City Court on May 16 based on which 5 former officials of Defense Ministry were imposed imprisonments with 7-year term each on charge of embezzlement of budgetary funds.

In 2016 political parties and election entities received a total of GEL 34,465,034.50 as donations, the most of which - GEL 22,995,584.00 was received by the Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia. The statistics was published by the State Audit Office.According to the data, the second largest donation was received last year State of People movement - GEL 4,491,467.43, which was followed by the Alliance of Patriots – GEL 1,644,168.80 GEL, the United National Movement – GEL 1,126,691.35, the Free Democrats - GEL 718,690.00, the new political center Girchi - GEL 626,520.90, Civic Platform - New Georgia - GEL 373,966.50, independent candidate Ilya Kokaia - GEL 337,400.00, independent candidate Vasil Khanishvili - GEL 304,840.00, independent candidate Tsezar Chocheli - GEL 280,000.00, etc. According to the State Audit Office, the donations were carried out 2854 times.

Man kills his brother in front of parents in Imereti region

A murder is reported to have taken place in Kumuri village, Vani district of western Imereti region. Reports say a man killed his brother with a gun in front of his parents. The murder was preceded by a verbal conflict. The suspect with a criminal record, born in 1998, has already been arrested.The detainee pleads guilty. An investigation is underway under article 108 pertaining to premeditated murder of a family member.

Working group established for regulation of covert auditions to hold meeting

The working group established for legislative regulations over covert auditions will hold the first meeting today. Members of the parliamentary majority will discuss how acceptable is the model prepared by the third sector based on which the so-called “key” to secret hearings should belong to a special independent body. The non-governmental organizations prepared the project after Constitutional Court recognized the current law as being unconstitutional. Members of the parliamentary majority agree that both human rights and security of the country should be taken into account while preparing the draft-bill. The parliament will have prepared the legislative norms by March 31.

The decision made by Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) regarding election of Vasil Maghlaperidze on post of GPB General Director harms reputation of the broadcaster and trust of the public toward it – Media Advocacy Coalition said in its statement. According to the statement, the Board members were introduced to action plans and critical visions of other candidates but did not support the contenders during the voting process. Vasil Maghlaperidze will head the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) during the next 6 years. The 8-member Board of Trustees elected Maghlaperidze as GPB new General Director with 6 votes for and 2- against through the secret balloting on January 6.

Working group to be established to prepare changes into Law on Broadcasting

A working group will be established to prepare changes into Law on Broadcasting. The decision was made by the Parliamentary Law Committee. Membership of the working group is not yet determined. However, it is known that three employees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) Goga Chartolani, Dodo Shonava and Revaz Chichinadze will be involved in the work of the group. National Tourism Administration sums 2016
