„Georgia - The Cradle of Wine“ - Prime Minister opens the exhibition in Bordeaux

The wine exhibition Georgia - The Cradle of Wine opened in the city of Bordeaux, France.Unique archaeological and ethnographic artifacts from the National Museum of Georgia proving that Georgia has an ancient wine civilization were presented at the Center of Wine Civilization- Cité des Civilisations Du Vin in Bordeaux, France.Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili opened an exhibition titled Georgia - Cradle of Wine in Georgia.National Museum of Georgia prepared the exposition that presents Georgian wine culture and depicts the longest and uninterrupted 8 000-year long history of wine-making.The head of the Government visited the exhibition hall.

The parliamentary Budget and Finance Committee has supported the legislative changes to the Law on Broadcasting, taking its remarks into account, through the first hearing. The session was held today.According to Chairman of the Committee Irakli Kovzanadze, the Budget and Finance Committee has same remarks regarding the project. He says that the organization's activities should be remained within the scope of Budget Code.The presented project of amendments envisages separation of authorities and duties of General Director of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) and Board of Trustees. Changes also refer to commercial advertising and sponsorship. According to the initiative, sponsorship of entertainment programs, international competitions, festivals and TV series are allowed.Amendments apply to purchasing as well. According to the existing regulations, the broadcaster carries out all types of purchases in accordance with the law on state procurement; according to the initiated amendments, the regulations should not apply to the purchasing of products such as programs, feature and documentary films.

Zurab Pololikashvili has been elected as Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). The UNWTO General Assembly unanimously supported the decision of the Executive Council of 12 May 2017 and appointed Zurab Pololikashvili to the position of UNWTO Secretary General.This is the first case when a candidate of Georgia occupies the position of the head of the international organization.The new Secretary General was elected at the 22nd session of the UNWTO General Assembly in China. The procedure was attended by Georgian Foreign Minister Mikhiel Janelidze.

Hurricane Irma was still wreaking havoc in South Carolina late Monday after causing at least 10 deaths in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.At least six people, including a sheriff's deputy, died of storm-related injuries in Florida as the massive hurricane barreled across the Sunshine State.One person was killed in Monroe County, which includes the Florida Keys. The man was killed after he lost control of a truck that carried a generator as winds whipped at tropical-storm strength, officials said.Two others, a sheriff's deputy and a corrections officer, died from a two-car crash in the rain in Hardee County, which is about 60 miles inland from Sarasota, officials said.In Winter Park, near Orlando, a man was electrocuted by a downed power line Monday morning, according to the Winter Park Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene after investigators found him lying in the street, police said.Another person died from carbon monoxide poisoning from improper use of a generator in Miami-Dade County, the mayor said.Another fatality was from a car crash in Orange County in central Florida.

Fatal Accident or violation of safety rules – two workers die in Batumi

Two workers under 30 of age fell from a building being under construction in Batumi city of Georgia. Both men died. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an investigation is launched under Article 240 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which pertains to violation of safety rules that caused a death of a person. Locals residing nearby the building also presume that violation of safety rules became the reason of the fatal accident. Construction Company "Metro" denies allegations and claims that all the equipment used for construction works were in order. According to emergency medical center of Batumi, the young men had already died when an ambulance arrived at the incident site.

Hurricane Irma is lashing Cuba with strong winds and heavy rain after devastating several Caribbean islands.The category five storm made landfall on the Camaguey Archipelago, off the north-eastern coast. But the Bahamas have largely been spared after Irma changed track.In Florida, 5.6 million people, or 25% of the US state's population, have been told to leave as the storm approaches. At least 20 people are known to have died so far across the Caribbean.Irma, which strengthened in the last few hours, hit the Camaguey Archipelago late on Friday, threatening nearby coastal towns and villages. This is the first time a category five hurricane has hit Cuba in decades, BBC reprorts.At 03:00 GMT on Saturday, Irma had maximum sustained winds of 257km/h (160mph), the National Hurricane Center in the US said.The eye of the storm was about 190km (120 miles) east-southeast of the Cuban fishing town of Caibarien.A hurricane warning is currently in effect in the provinces of Camaguey, Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus, Villa Clara and Matanzas.Some communities have lost power, and communication is becoming increasingly difficult with towns in more remote areas, the BBC's Will Grant in Havana reports. Residents are hoping the storm will just glance the island before heading across the Florida Straits to Miami.

Grigol Kipshidze to present Georgia at 2017 JESC

Grigol Kipshidze will present Georgia at 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC). The Georgian contender was revealed by the special jury this afternoon. Open hearing of contenders took place at the pavilion of First Channel. The jury included producer Zaza Shengelia, singer Maia Baratashvili, musician Davit Evgenidze, from GPB - musical editor - Eliso Shengelia and voice director - Giorgi Asanishvili.Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) announced the national competition for selection of 2017 JESC contender on July 17. Children aged 9-14 could apply with the song from their own repertoire.Georgia is hosting 2017 JESC for the first time. The contest will be held on November 26 at Tbilisi Olympic Palace. A new song will be composed for Georgian contender of 2017. Gordon Bonello will be the staging director of 2017 JESC. He has cooperated with European Broadcasting Union (EBU) since 2014. Georgian contender Mariam Mamadashvili won JESC 2016 on Malta with the song "Mzeo" (The Sun).

Firefighting works continue in Khulo

Firefighting works continue in Khulo, Adjara region. Emergency headquarters has resumed activities since 6 AM. About 500 firefighters and rescuers are involved in extinguishing efforts. Two helicopters are present in Khulo. According to Archil Chikovani, Head of Adjara Roads Department, firefighters and rescuers will be inspecting the fire-hit territory during the next 3-4 days.
