Firefighters battle two fires near Gori

The fire broke out at the settlement, next to old bridge, on the other side of the river Mtkvari.Fire-rescue brigades are mobilized at the site. Fire also broke out in the vicinity of the central highway in the pine forest. Two firefighter brigades and rescuers are mobilized on the spot. The fire has spread on the grass, the rescue brigades managed to save trees.The cause of the fires is unknown.

The expert-criminalists, rescue teams and the National Environmental Agency specialists are working at the helicopter crash place.Helicopter MI-8 will be taken from the water reservoir, supposedly, after the water pumping.Border Police Helicopter, which was involved in fire extinguishing works in Borjomi Gorge, has crashed this morning. Crash took place when the water tank was being filled.The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the helicopter was checked 2 days ago and its engine was in complete order. Specialists of the National Environmental Agency are studying the situation on the ground.

Four persons, who were injured as a result of helicopter crash, have been already discharged from the hospital.The injured people were taken to Gudushauri hospital for prevention and further medical examination. According to the latest information, three persons were the members of the Helicopter MI-8 crew, and one received injures during the rescue operation.Georgian  Border Police Helicopter, which was involved in fire extinguishing works in Borjomi Gorge, has crashed this morning, when the water tank was being filled.Investigation into the case has been launched.

Road accident in Guria

A canister full of petrol has been recently found at the Borjomi forest. Information has been released on facebook by Aka Sinjikashvili. As reported, police officers have already arrived at the scene. Investigation has been underway according to the 187th article of Georgia’s Criminal Code. ‘We have encountered a 20-litre canister full of petrol at the Borjomi forest. I called in Patrol Police. Representatives of the Interior Ministry also arrived. They called an investigator and a probe has been launched… As reported another person has also found two canisters in the forest,’ Sinjikashvili reports.

Armenia sends its crews to help Georgia fight wildfire

Armenia will also engage in firefighting efforts in Borjomi Gorge. As Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili reported, crews from Armenia are already on their way to Georgia. ‘We have already got very significant assistance from Azerbaijan. At the end of the day a large firefighter plane will arrive from Turkey – Turkish PM has made such a decision… Armenia has also decided to help Georgia, having sent its crews that are currently on their way,’ Kvirikashvili said.

President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili has thanked all those involved in extinguishing the fire near Daba village of Borjomi Gorge. He especially thanked the firefighters and rescuers, heroically fighting in these days. He has also thanked Azerbaijan and Turkey for providing assistance. ‘I would also like to thank our public, volunteers but I would also like to call on them not to act independently but offer their help to the staff working to extinguish the fire… Thank you all for being so organized at a social level,’ Margvelashvili has remarked. Fire erupted at the forest near the Daba village on August 20. Yesterday it was localized but severe wind led eruption of new fire-hit locations.

Firefighters still trying to extinguish fire in Borjomi Gorge

Up to 200 firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire that hit the Borjomi Gorge.  A helicopter and rescue services are involved in the process.According to Georgia’s National Forest Agency there is no danger of spreading the fire in the settlement territory. The cleanup efforts of the paths heading to the fire were underway all night long.

Expert-Criminals are working at explosion site in Batumi

Expert-Criminals are working at Abashidze Street in Batumi, at the site where explosion at liquid gas station occurred yesterday.  Investigation is ongoing under the Article 240 of  Criminal Code, which implies neglect of security norms.Additional explanations have not been made yet from Adjara government agencies regarding the incident. Batumi City Hall provided temporary shelter to the victims of the explosion.Two houses were fully burnt, two - were damaged, three people were injured and five cars were burnt as a result of an explosion at liquid gas station at General Abashidze Street in Batumi city of Adjara region yesterday. Two injured people still remain in hospital. One of them was transferred to Tbilisi Burning Center.

Explosion in Batumi leaves houses burnt and 3 people injured

Two houses were fully burnt, two - were damaged, three people were injured and five cars were burnt as a result of an explosion at liquid gas station at General Abashidze Street in Batumi city of Adjara region. The blast caused ruining of the houses. No casualties are reported in the incident. Two people are transferred to the hospital with body burns. The health condition of one person remains critical. All the three injured people are employees of the station. Emergency brigades, rescuers and firefighters worked at the disaster scene. The fire is extinguished. Sixty firefighters worked at site. Locals demand re-location of the gas station. The gas station has been functioning without a permit for 9 months, as Batumi City Hall reports. Four families are left without living spaces. Batumi City Hall will provide temporary shelter to the victims of the explosion. Damaged houses will be repaired. Batumi Mayor Giorgi Ermakov visited the explosion site. Investigation will determine exact causes of the blast. A criminal case is opened under article of #240 Criminal Code of Georgia that envisages violation of safety rules at oil objects. The amount of damage will be calculated and victims of the blast will be provided with necessary aid.
