Viewpoints of sides regarding decision into Vano Merabishvili’s case

The Georgian side will complain against the decision made by Strasbourg Court into case of Vano Merabishvili, former Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia. 

According to Tea Tsulukiani, Justice Minister, Georgia will continue legal dispute in higher chamber into episode of Partskhaladze and taking Merabishvili out of the prison cell. The court considered Merabishvili’s imprisonment as legal. 

Meanwhile, lawyer of Merabishvili Otar Kakhidze claims that his defendant is recognized as political prisoner in the decision of Strasbourg Court. 

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) announced its decision in relation to a complaint presented by Merabishvili earlier this afternoon.

Georgia is imposed to pay 12 thousand Euro into case of Vano Merabishvili (former Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia) vs. Georgia based on the decision of Strasbourg Court. 

The court decided that two articles European Convention of Human Rights were violated. The Georgian government has to pay 4 thousand Euros to Merabishvili for compensation of moral damage and 8 thousand – for covering expenses.
