NATO Parliamentary Assembly adopts declaration in support of Georgia

NATO Parliamentary Assembly has adopted a declaration in support of Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

The document was supported by 25 delegates of the NATO member country, only two voted against and one abstained.

The Vice President of the Assembly presented the draft declaration to the deputies, after which the Georgian delegation requested to amend the text. In particular to add the following sentence: "To ensure free movement and trade along the administrative boundary line" to the paragraph 18 of the declaration, which calls on Russia to allow the presence of international monitors to the occupy territories of Georgia.

The request of the Georgian delegation was fully supported by the rapporteurs of the declaration. Finally, the members of the Assembly adopted an amended document.

The Declaration supports Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as country's Euro-Atlantic integration and calls on NATO member states to deepen cooperation with the country and create the conditions for granting MAP to Georgia.

The Assembly calls on the Russian Federation to recall recognition of Georgia’s occupied regions and withdraw its armed forces from these territories and allow international monitors to the occupy territories of Georgia.

The NATO Parliamentary Assembly calls on the Government of Georgia to continue to utilize NATO's integration capabilities fully, strengthen democratic institutions, including independent judiciary and maintain media pluralism.
