Occupation Museum opened in Ergneti


Occupation Museum has been opened in Ergneti village in connection with the 9th anniversary of August 2008 Georgia-Russia war. The exhibition space was arranged 50 meters away from the so-called border. 

Parts of mines and fragments of bombs were collected and brought to the museum by locals. Ketevan Tsikhelashvili, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equity and Giorgi Abashishvili, Head of President’s Administration opened the museum.

Georgian state flags are lowered at all state institutions in connection with the 9th anniversary of August 2008 Georgia-Russia war. Church services are being held at all acting churches to pay tribute to the memory of those who died in the war. 

The villages of Nuli, Avnevi, Frisi and Dvani were bombed on August 7. Russian military vehicles entered Georgia’s occupied regions of South Ossetia through Roki tunnel on August 8. The Russian aviation bombed Gori, Poti port, Senaki, Marneuli and Vaziani military bases, aviation factory. Russian soldiers occupied Kodori Gorge, Perevi village of Sachkhere region. 

The five-day war was stopped with 2008 truce agreement mediated by the international community. Russia declared independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The war claimed lives of 228 civilians, 169 soldiers and 14 police officers. About 150 thousand people were forced to leave their houses. About 30 thousand remain to be IDPs.
