Presentation of an Investigation Methodology Manual Held at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office

Chief Prosecutor of Georgia Irakli Shotadze attended a presentation of investigation methodology manual held at the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. The manual that prescribes procedures and methodology to carry out every investigative and procedural actions stipulated by the Criminal Procedural Code of Georgia has been prepared at the initiative of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia by a work-group composed by prosecutors and investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Deputy Chief Prosecutors of Georgia, members of the Council of Prosecutors, representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Corrections, Ministry of Finance, U.S. Embassy in Georgia, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, European Union, European Council, UNICEF, Office of the Public Defender, National Forensics Bureau and non-governmental organizations attended the presentation. 

The workgroup composed by prosecutors and investigators of the Ministry of Internal Affairswas created for the purpose to separate the functions between prosecutors and investigators, improve quality of investigations and communication between representatives of the law enforcement authorities and participants of criminal proceedings. 

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia provided the workgroup with expert support in course of developing the manual for investigation methodology while the EU Programme of Criminal Justice Support ensured its printing and publishing. In addition, opinions and recommendations prepared by the experts of the EU Programme of Criminal Justice Support were considered while elaborating the manual.

The manual will be adopted in training modules for investigators since it provides practical instruction and the investigators re-trained on its basis will be able to more effectively carry out any investigative / procedural action, and to consider and protect the interests of participants of criminal proceedings.

Chief Prosecutor awarded all thirteen co-author of the manual with respective certificates during the presentation that was held with financial and technical support of the EU Programme of Criminal Justice Support.
