Georgia in expectation of Venice Commission’s conclusion

Georgia is in expectation of the final conclusion about Constitutional changes from Venice Commission. The commission will approve the conclusion today.

Ana Dolidze, President’s Parliamentary Secretary will present the 4-point proposal at the sitting of Venice Commission, an advisory board of Council of Europe today.

The opposition claims that if the majority agrees on the proposals, the new Constitution of Georgia will be a recognized document by all sides.

President and minority agreed upon 4-point instead of 6 proposals during the meeting held on October 5. The proposal envisages prohibition of bonuses, admission of formation of electoral blocs for the 2020 parliamentary elections, transformation onto Proportional (Party) election system and election of president after establishment of 2-chamber parliament.

Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament will also attend the sitting of Venice Commission.
