Georgian free-style wrestler Geno Petriashvili will struggle for Bronze Medal at Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games tonight. Petriashvili, competing in 120-kilogram weight category, fought in quarter semi-final and lost to Iranian rival with equal scores. However, Iranian wrestler has qualified for the final and now the Georgian sportsman has the right to struggle for the third place. 

Georgian weightlifter 22-year-old Lasha Talakhadze won Gold Medal in +105 kg category at Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Talakhadze set the record in the over 105-kilogram weightlifting division with 473 total kilos to win the gold medal in a surprising upset over the heavily favored Behdad Salimi of Iran. Talakhadze lifted 215 kilos on the snatch and 258 on the clean and jerk to set the new mark. Gor Minasyan of Armenia won silver and Georgia's Irakli Turmanidze took home the bronze.  At this time, the Georgian delegation has earned 5 medals: one gold, one silver and three bronzes. Thus, Georgia is sharing the 40th place with Ethiopia. 

A suspicious bag was discovered outside the hotel of Rio de Janeiro where Tariel Khechikashvili, Georgian Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and his deputy are currently accommodated, this morning. Mobilization of law-enforcers became necessary under the background of ongoing sports competitions. The explosion was heard. It became known later that it was a false alarm. De-miners were called to inspect the bag and it was destroyed as a result. Representatives of Rescue Service and Police worked at site as well.The minister said in a phone interview with “Moambe” News Program of First Channel that security measures are reinforced in Rio due to ongoing 2016 Summer Olympic Games. 

Georgian judo wrestler Varlam Liparteliani has qualified for the semi-final at Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The Olympic champion of 2014 competing in the 90-kilogram-weight category defeated his rival from Mongolia. 

The President and the First Lady have visited the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro. Giorgi Margvelashvili and Maka Chichua met the athletes participating in the Olympic Games and wished them success.The athletes thanked Margvelashvili for attending the Olympic Games and supporting them. "You can see that the Georgian flag has been erected in Rio. This is heartwarming for all Georgians. Forty Georgian athletes arrived here. I am sure that the Georgian flag will be erected many times in Rio. I want to thank all who work now in Rio: athletes, doctors, organizing group and journalists", - said the President.Margvelashvili met with his French counterpart François Hollande in the Olympic Village. The leader of France wished good luck to Georgian athletes. After the meeting with the Olympians, the President and the First Lady dined together with the athletes in the Olympic Village.
