Governmental Administration releases statement about Abashidze-Karasin meeting

Trade-economic, transport and humanitarian issues, as well as issues related to the occupation, were discussed at the Abashidze-Karasin meeting.

Within the framework of the Georgian-Russian dialogue, a regular meeting was held between Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Gregory Karasin and Zurab Abashidze, Georgian PM’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia, in Prague yesterday. 

"At the beginning of the meeting Zurab Abashidze spoke about systematic arrests in the Tskhinvali region, restriction of the Georgian language in educational institutions of Gali district and erection of wire fences in the Georgian-controlled territories.

It was underlined that Russia's steps violate the international law, as well as the territorial integrity and the principle of sovereignty of Georgia. All of this is a serious threat to the stability and security of the country and the region. It was said that the Georgian side is using and will continue to use all available diplomatic leverage to draw the attention of the international community.

The meeting highlighted the particular importance of the Geneva International Discussions",  says the information released by the Governmental Administration.

The sides also talked about the expansion of export of Georgian products to Russia. It was noted that the trade turnover between the two countries had decreased by 8,9% for the last nine months, however there had been increasing trend in transfer of cargo and passengers from Georgia to Russia.
