US electing 45th President

Elections, which will have influence on the world’s politics - Voters in the U.S. go to the polls today to elect Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump to replace Barack Obama as President of the United States. The new, 45th president will be elected with 4-year term.

Each of the 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, has a certain amount of electoral college votes to award a candidate, based on the number of members of Congress it has. This is roughly in line with each area's population. Except in Maine and Nebraska, the votes are given on a winner-takes-all basis.

This system matters, as the popular vote is less important than the electoral college vote. Clinton's campaign should be buoyed by big Democratic states such as New York, New Jersey, Illinois and California, and these populous states could lead her to victory with their large number of electoral college votes.

It’s all about the 538 Electoral College votes. A candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes to clinch the White House. Two measures help capture how important a state and its voters will be in determining the next president: “Tipping-point chance” is the probability that a state will provide the decisive vote in the Electoral College. “Voter power index” is the relative likelihood that an individual voter in a state will determine the Electoral College winner.

According to Independent, all new presidents face a formidable workload, no matter what their level of experience, and no matter that they sit at the command of the planet’s largest economy, most formidable armed forces and atop a vast bureaucracy that can offer plentiful, if not invariably wise, advice.

Now that one of the bitterest campaigns in history has drawn to a close, here are some of the more pressing demands that will be demanding the 45th president’s attention, whether it's Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. The challenges include but are not limited to ISIS, Russia, overstretch and economy.
