Georgia marks Independence Day observed on May 26. Solemn activities are being held throughout the day both in Tbilisi and different regions of Georgia. The main activities in Tbilisi are held at Rustaveli Avenue and Liberty Square.

This year activities organized on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day marked on May 26 are also dedicated to the 850th jubilee of Shota Rustaveli and his poem “Knight in the Panther’s Skin.” All events respond to the concept “I am from country of Rustaveli.”

The solemn activities began with the ceremony of taking oath by newly-summoned military servicemen. Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulated the Georgian population and armed forces on the day. Defense Minister Levan Izoria addressed the servicemen.
