Wife of Azerbaijani journalist being questioned

The wife of Azerbaijani journalist Afgan Mukhtarli, who has lived in Georgia since 2015 and disappeared from Tbilisi, is being questioned. The lawyer, who met with the detained journalist and has arrived from Baku talks about new circumstances into the case. Rights defenders believe that Prosecutor’s Office has to probe into the matter. 

Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said that in case of application, Justice Ministry will assist the family and will grant wife and children of the journalist with Georgian citizenship. 

Ian Kelly, US Ambassador to Georgia said that Georgian authorities gave him a promise that they would probe into the case in details, and that the government pays attention to security of Azerbaijani nationals living in Georgia. Comments were made by Head of Presidential Administration and Minister of Education and Science.
