Twenty-four years passed after fall of Sokhumi. September 27 is the most tragic day in the modern history of Georgia.

It was perpetrated against Georgian civilians of Sukhumi, mainly by militia forces of Abkhaz separatists, their North Caucasian and Russian allies. It became part of a violent ethnic cleansing campaign carried out by the separatists.

The tragic claimed lives of more than 10 thousand Georgian soldiers and civilians based on unverified information. The fall of Sokhumi left about 300 thousand IDPs without homes.
