Statement of US Embassy about parliamentary elections in Georgia

US Embassy in Georgia released a statement about October 8 parliamentary elections in Georgia. “Embassy of the United States congratulates Georgia on competitive and well-administered elections which largely respected fundamental freedoms on October 8, as assessed by the OSCE’s Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.  We also note that Election Day proceeded in an orderly manner but regret that tensions increased during the day and several violent incidents took place in polling stations.We strongly condemn these isolated cases of violence and intimidation, and urge a thorough and balanced investigation of all incidents that respects the rule of law.These elections are the first step in a process that will include further run-off contests, and we urge all parties and their supporters to approach these elections in a calm and peaceful manner, and to address any electoral concerns in accordance with Georgian law.  We will continue to monitor the process closely, including the campaigning to come and run-off elections,” reads the statement.

ISFED published results of Parallel Vote Tabulation

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) has published results of Parallel Vote Tabulation.  According to the PVT projections, the official results for Georgian Dream should fall between 48.2% and 50.0%. The official results for the United National Movement should fall between 25.9% and 27.7%. According to the PVT, the official result for the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia can be between 4.6% and 5.2%. Therefore, the PVT results cannot definitively say whether or not the party cleared the 5% threshold.

The State Audit Service hs released the regarding financial documentation.According to the document, the Georgian Dream received the credit on September 14. The repayment period is 4 months, while the annual interest rate is 11%.The credit is ensured by the rule of the Article 561 of the Election Code, according to which, the state reimburses the costs under 1 million GEL spent by parties which cross the minimal election threshold.

Difference of opinions among political parties over Peace Memorandum

There is difference in opinions among political parties regarding the so-called Peace Memorandum published by Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party drafted at the initiative of Prime Minister. Republican Party has already signed the document. The parliamentary oppositional United National Movement (UNM) Party, Labor Party and National Forum do not intend to join the memorandum. Georgian Dream published the so-called Peace Memorandum.
