Ahead of the second round of elections, the non-governmental Organizations appeal the Central Election Commission with recommendations and talk about the shortcomings, which, in their opinion, must be corrected. What are the plans and assessments of the Majoritarian candidates? 

US Embassy in Georgia released a statement about October 8 parliamentary elections in Georgia. “Embassy of the United States congratulates Georgia on competitive and well-administered elections which largely respected fundamental freedoms on October 8, as assessed by the OSCE’s Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.  We also note that Election Day proceeded in an orderly manner but regret that tensions increased during the day and several violent incidents took place in polling stations.We strongly condemn these isolated cases of violence and intimidation, and urge a thorough and balanced investigation of all incidents that respects the rule of law.These elections are the first step in a process that will include further run-off contests, and we urge all parties and their supporters to approach these elections in a calm and peaceful manner, and to address any electoral concerns in accordance with Georgian law.  We will continue to monitor the process closely, including the campaigning to come and run-off elections,” reads the statement.

Irakli Alasania, the leader of Free Democrats party, announced about temporarily quitting politics.Alasania made the regarding statement at a special briefing held at the party’s headquarters today.He also said that he will not take part in the second round of elections in Gori.Alasania said that the Free Democrats party will continue its work and prepare for next elections.

“Elections have been held” - Georgia’s Parliamentary Speaker has assessed the election process.As  Davit Usupashvili said, there is no reason for having any doubts in terms of the election process or its results. According to him, despite some violations which occurred during the process, citizens had opportunity to make  free choice.

Georgian Young Lawyer Association held a briefing at Media Center. Ana Natsvlishvili, the Chairperson of Georgian Young Lawyer’s Association  talked about violations and violence facts occurred during the vote day. On this basis, the organization demanded annulations of the results of several polling stations of Zugdidi and Khobi districts.

International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) has published results of Parallel Vote Tabulation.  According to the PVT projections, the official results for Georgian Dream should fall between 48.2% and 50.0%. The official results for the United National Movement should fall between 25.9% and 27.7%. According to the PVT, the official result for the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia can be between 4.6% and 5.2%. Therefore, the PVT results cannot definitively say whether or not the party cleared the 5% threshold.

A member of United National Movement (UNM) Party and his father were physically assaulted at #48 polling station of Saburtalo Constituency. The victims of physical abuse are being questioned at police. A criminal case is opened into the fact.

According to GFK exit polls primary results, 39,9% have voted for Georgian Dream and 32,7% - for United National Movement. Patriots’ Alliance has crossed the election threshold gaining 5,76% of the votes. As the Rustavi2 TV Company has reported, 90% of the exit poll data have been calculated.

A man, aged 83 died of heart attack after voting at #51 polling station in Batumi city, Adjara region. Voting process was suspended during several minutes. The dead body is transferred to the morgue. 

Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II took part in 2016 parliamentary elections. Patriarch cast his ballot at #4 Polling Station of Krtsanisi Constituency. Ilia II called on the population for active participation in elections.

Davit Usupashvili, Chairman of Parliament case his ballot at #54 Polling Station of #6 Saburtalo Constituency. Usupashvili arrived at the polling station together with his wife Tina Khidasheli, who is running as Majoritarian (single mandate) MP candidate in Zestaphoni town of western Imereti region. 

Five political parties refused participation in political debates held last evening on First Channel of Georgian Public Broadcasting (GPB). The seats envisaged for leaders of Georgian Dream, Free Democrats, United National Movement (UNM) Party, Labor Party and Patriots’ Alliance were left empty. They named ongoing active pre-election campaigning as reason for rejection. 

The Georgian Dream received 1 million GEL in credit from Cartu Bank. The State Audit Service hs released the regarding financial documentation.According to the document, the Georgian Dream received the credit on September 14. The repayment period is 4 months, while the annual interest rate is 11%.The credit is ensured by the rule of the Article 561 of the Election Code, according to which, the state reimburses the costs under 1 million GEL spent by parties which cross the minimal election threshold. 

There is difference in opinions among political parties regarding the so-called Peace Memorandum published by Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party drafted at the initiative of Prime Minister. Republican Party has already signed the document. The parliamentary oppositional United National Movement (UNM) Party, Labor Party and National Forum do not intend to join the memorandum. Georgian Dream published the so-called Peace Memorandum. According to the memorandum, political parties agree to ensure distancing of their activists from the events held in support of other parties and will take all measures to prevent their activists’ interference with the events.

Irakli Kobakhidze, Executive Secretary of Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia Party made public the text of the so-called Peace Memorandum, which is targeted at holding of 2016 parliamentary elections in peaceful environment. Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili called on political parties for signing the peace memorandum. Georgian Dream expresses readiness for consultations with all political parties and calls on them for signing the document. The oppositional United National Movement (UNM) Party does not plan to sign the memorandum. 

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mgebrishvili categorically rules out the repetition of the incidents similar to Kortskheli and claims that the Ministry takes the responsibility over the issue. Giorgi Mgebrishvili states that police will ensure complete security during the elections.
