"Lavrov's visit to occupied Abkhazia was humiliating for our country" - MPs respond to opening of Russian Embassy in Sokhumi

The assessments are made on Russian Foreign Minister’s arrival in Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region.

US Embassy to Georgia expresses concern over the visit of Sergey Lavrov to occupied Abkhazia. Nicholas Berliner, the acting ambassador of US says that Russia’s embassy in Abkhazia, which was opened two days ago, will not have many neighbor embassies as international community considers Abkhazia as a part of Georgia. According to him US does not recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and continues to support Georgia's territorial integrity.

The representatives of Georgia’s ruling team as well as the opposition are condemning Lavrov’s visit and assessing it as illegal act.

Russia’s Minister Sergey Lavrov paid a visit to Georgia’s breakaway Abkhazia region on April 18 and 19, 2017.
