Presumable candidates to run for post of Tbilisi Mayor known

Presumable candidates who will run for post of Tbilisi Mayor in the forthcoming local self-governance elections to be held in autumn are known. 

Kakha Kaladze, Energy Minister and Vice-Prime Minister will compete for the post from Georgian Dream Party, Zaal Udumashvili, Deputy Director General and anchor of Rustavi 2 TV Company will presumably represent National Movement Party, Elene Khoshtaria – European Georgia Party and Aleko Elisashvili, independent member of Tbilisi Sakrebulo (City Assembly) will also compete for the post. 

Zaal Udumashvili confirmed that National Movement offered him to be a candidate for Tbilisi Mayor in the local self-governance elections on behalf of the party. Udumashvili said he held meetings in Kiev, Ukraine, over the matter with party leaders including ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili but told reporters that he had not made any decision yet. “I will supposedly declare about my decision in several days,” Udumashvili said.

The candidacy of Kakha Kaladze is already agreed in the ruling team. The non-parliamentary opposition keeps silent. 

The date of local self-governance elections is not yet set. However, the majority of political parties are already preparing for the polls.
