The flames intensified near Ardagani cemetery in the Borjomi Gorge last night. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Mghebrishvili arrived at the disaster scene. According to Prime Minister the situation is not alarming. Four fire-rescue crews are working on the spot.

Georgian military forces have been involved in the natural disaster localization efforts in Borjomi Gorge. More than a thousand military servicemen of first infantry and engine brigades of the East Command of the Land Forces will try to extinguish the fire.Soldiers will get closer to flames through newly cut paths and localize them.Fires are still observed in several sections of the disaster zone. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and Defense Minister Levan Izoria are present at the disaster scene. 

The Emergency headquarters releases a statement concerning ongoing anti-fire activities in Borjomi and other Georgian regions. As reported by the headquarters, 1500 firefighters are fighting the fire. Six helicopters resumed working in the morning. Rescuers, firefighters, foresters and police officers work in round-clock regime.  “The most difficult zone is in Ardagani at present,” the statement reports, - “peat is observed due to high temperature that makes the situation far more complicated.”According to the statement the Ministry of Environment studied the quality of air in the villages along the natural disaster and concluded that all components are normal. As reported the fire at Pshav-Khevsureti national Park has been localized. The rangers of the Protected Territories Agency fought it all night long. The fire erupted in Andaki gorge on August 22. It started in a house of a shepherd and expanded in fields and forest. It was localized in 12 hours. The fire has been extinguished at the village of Zemo Tvalivi, Dusheti District. The burnt places will be checked again for prevention. According to the Special Staff Defense Minister Levan Izoria and General Staff Head Vladimer Chachibaia will visit Ateni to personally see the situation at the scene. Soldiers are mobilized at the gorge. “The Special Staff members remain in the Borjomi gorge,” -  the statement reads.

Israel has also shown readiness to help Georgia fight the Borjomi gorge wildfire. As reported from the Israel Embassy, Ambassador Shabtai Tsur has already expressed the readiness when having conversation with the special governmental staff members.‘Israel, as a friend of Georgia cannot be indifferent to the Georgian developments being ready to provide Georgia with assistance as possible… The Embassy, Foreign Ministry of Israel as well as special staff are ready to act in a coordinated way and elaborate an action plan if needed,’ Israeli Embassy has reported. 

Armed forces may become involved in firefighting works in Borjomi Gorge upon necessity. The Georgian parliament will discuss the issue during the extraordinary session. Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili applied to president regarding use of soldiers on August 22.

Heavy rain and strong wind inflicted damage to western Guria region last night. Special headquarters is established to calculate the amount of inflicted damage. Trees were un-rooted in Ureki and Grigoleti resorts. Courtyards and ground floors were flooded and electricity transmission lines were damaged. Subscribers of Ureki resort are cut off electric power supply.

Weather forecasters claim that it will be raining in Borjomi Gorge on August 23. The air temperature will be 30-32 degrees by Celsius scale. The wind will weaken at night hours. 

Up to 200 firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire that hit the Borjomi Gorge.  A helicopter and rescue services are involved in the process.According to Georgia’s National Forest Agency there is no danger of spreading the fire in the settlement territory. The cleanup efforts of the paths heading to the fire were underway all night long.

High temperature will be maintained in Georgia on August 11-12, Georgian weather forecasters claim. On August 10-11, in western Georgia, the air temperature is expected to be 33-38 degrees, while 34-38 degrees are expected in the east. As for Tbilisi, the air temperature will be 38 degrees on August 10, 36 degrees – on August 11 and 35 degrees - on August 12. The air temperature will slightly decrease on August 12 in eastern Georgia.
