Prosecutor’s Office –Georgian side cannot extradite Gela Mikadze to foreign country if requested

If requested by a foreign country, the Georgian side cannot extradite Georgian citizen Gela Mikadze to the foreign country, Chief Prosecutor’s Office says.

According to the 13th article of the Georgian Constitution, handover of a Georgian citizen to a foreign country is banned, except for the cases envisaged by international agreements.

‘Georgia’s civil belonging represents the circumstance that serves as an obstacle to the extradition,’ the Chief Prosecutor’s Office reports.

Georgian MP from Alliance of Patriots Gela Mikadze was sentenced to 15 years in jail in absentia by United Arab Emirates court.
