He underwent through surgery on his jaws and an eye last evening. Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) opened a criminal case and investigative activities are ongoing. Kvedelidze worked at MIA when Irakli Gharibashvili was the Minister. He was detained in 2013 on fact of release of footage reflecting private life. Kvedelidze was imposed 1-year conditional sentence.

The driver, who participated in March 22 road accident at Aghmashenebeli Lane in Tbilisi that left 11-year-old child killed and the child’s mother critically injured, is detained. The detained driver is T. T. born in 1994. Investigation determined that the driver of BMW mark of the car drove the vehicle at the high speed and with violation of traffic rules. The car hit another car, which hit electricity post and hit two people waiting for transport at a bus stop. 

Officers of Investigation Service of Finance Ministry detained one person on charge of transporting alcoholic beverage without excise stamps by his car. Non-excise products are confiscated. The charge envisages imprisonment from 2 to 4 years. 

A special briefing was held at Chief Prosecutor’s Office into the so-called Cyanide case. Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze is charged for having attempted to poison a high-ranking clergyman with Potassium Cyanide. Chief Prosecutor’s Office reported about interim findings of the ongoing investigation due to high interest of the public into the case. More than 30 people were questioned. Investigation determined that the charged person has tried to buy Cyanide several times to liquidate Shorena Tetruashvili, Secretary-Referent of Patriarch. Intensive investigation activities keep on. Prosecutor’s office reported that the charged Archpriest evaded direct questions and gave absurd answers. It also published audio conversations into the case. A hand-made gun and bullets were confiscated from Mamaladze’s house upon search. The charge envisages from 7 to 15 years in prison. 

The Prosecutor’s Office has opened the safe confiscated from the house of Archpriest Giorgi Mamaladze, charged for having attempted to poison a high-ranking clergyman. The procedural investigative action was carried out in the Prosecutor’s Office and it was attended by the lawyers in the so-called Cyanide case. The lawyers said the investigators became suspicious of the safe after the archpriest did not allow them to open it. However, the safe was opened today and turned out to be empty. "They opened the safe and there was nothing. The investigators became suspicious of the safe after the archpriest did not allow them to open it. Today we attended the opening of the safe and it turned out to be empty,” the lawyer said. 

Gela Kobaladze, Chairman of Ozurgeti Sakrebulo (City Assembly) has been detained by law-enforcers on fact of taking bribe. According to the investigation, Kobakhidze asked Pyramid Company 50 thousand GEL for accepting to register non-fulfilled works. Gela Kobaladze was detained red-handed. He faces from 11 to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed 57 criminal cases and 883 facts of administrative law-violations during the police control raids carried out on January 26-27 throughout Georgia. The facts include illegal possession and carrying of weapons (9 cases), illegal keeping of drugs (15 facts), resistance to police (3 facts), violence (1 fact), robbery (5 facts), hooliganism and other crimes. 

Prosecutor’s Office has arrested three persons on the basis of the court ruling as the accused, for beating and threatening journalist Giorgi Gasviani.Investigative agency has released a statement in that regard: “Hence the investigation conducted by the Prosecution Service of Georgia, Mikheil Khutsishvili, Paata Kvinikadze and Boris Gogichaishvili were Investigation revealed, that on December 18, 2016, Giorgi Gasviani, the journalist at Iberia TV broadcasting, was driving his own car to the city of Borjomi, where he was going to participate in the seminar organized for journalists at Crowne Plaza Borjomi. When he arrived in Borjomi at nearly 24:00, his automobile skidded on the carriageway causing the car Mikheil Khutishvili was driving from the opposite direction to stop by his vehicle. The latter was accompanied by his friends: Paata Kvinikadze and Boris Gogichaishvili. The mentioned persons got off the car, approached the vehicle Giorgi Gasviani was driving and started beating him in face and other regions of body; and Mikheil Khutsishvili put a firearm (handgun) against Giorgi Gasviani’s head and menaced him, which was perceived by Giorgi Gasviani as an actual threat against his life and health. Mikheil Khutsishvili, Boris Gogichaishvili and Paata Kvinikadze stopped beating Giorgi Gasviani only after then, when they found that he was a journalist and began to convince him not to disclose the details of the incident anywhere; then they saw him off to the Crowne Plaza Borjomi hotel.While arresting Mikheil Khutsishvili, Boris Gogichaishvili and Paata Kvinikadze as the accused, the Prosecution took into the consideration the following circumstances: there was a reasonable doubt that if the defendants were left at liberty, they would coerce on witnesses; also, they do not confess and they are not cooperating with the investigation. Besides, the fact, that Mikheil Khutsishvili, Boris Gogichaishvili and Paata Kvinikadze tried to cover up the crime as soon as they committed it, was considered. In particular, as they found out that the affected Giorgi Gasviani was a journalist, they began to convince him not to disclose the happening and not to address the law enforcement. They left the affected at the hotel only after Giorgi Gasviani made them a promise that he would not report the incident anywhere.In the light of the aforesaid, the Prosecution filed a motion to the court requesting

Murder is reported in Aleqseevka district in Tbilisi - man was killed by a gunshot.Criminalists are working at the scene. Suspect born in 1968 has been arrested.Murder presumably occurred on the basis on conflict. Investigation is ongoing.

Murder case occurred in so called Kombinati district in Gori town, Shida Kartli region today. The case occurred in the yard of Nino Burjanadze - Democratic Movement Party office.Witnesses said that 60-year-old man entered the office from the Street, the attacked chased after and the man ran to the yard where the murder occurred.Reportedly, deceased man is the brother of a local businessman.Investigation is ongoing under the article 108 of Criminal Code. 

Adjara Police arrested a person, who robbed a currency exchange booth in one of the supermarkets in Batumi city. He was dressed as Santa Claus and committed the robbery on the night of December 31, 2016. The person, born in 1991, took away 8 820 GEL with the use of a toy gun. The defendant was arrested in the city of Batumi. The defendant has pleaded guilty. Further investigation into the case is ongoing. 

Express Office of Bank of Georgia (BoG) located at Khizanishvili Street in Gldani district of Tbilisi was robbed this morning. The amount of seize money is not yet determined. Reportedly, the office was robbed by one masked person. A criminal case is opened. Investigation into the case is ongoing. 

A murder is reported to have taken place in Kumuri village, Vani district of western Imereti region. Reports say a man killed his brother with a gun in front of his parents. The murder was preceded by a verbal conflict. The suspect with a criminal record, born in 1998, has already been arrested.The detainee pleads guilty. An investigation is underway under article 108 pertaining to premeditated murder of a family member.  

Nika Gvaramia, General Director of Rustavi 2 TV Company claims that he has been physically assaulted at a restaurant. Gvaramia said that he was dining together with friends after his father’s funeral this evening when the lights were put out and he and his companions were attacked by 4 people. The police are working at the crime scene. According to Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), probing into the incident is ongoing. 

A husband gagged his wife with a rope at Aghmashenebeli Avenue in Tbilisi. The killed woman was found by neighbors in the house. The man surrendered to the police. Officers of Criminal Police are working at the crime scene. Investigation is ongoing on charge of premeditated murder. 

A man killed his former wife with a hunting gun in Tsinandali, Kakheti region. Kakheti Police Department opened investigation into the case under article 108 of Criminal Code of Georgia that envisages premeditated murder and prison term from 7 to 15 years. The crime took place on December 9. The man born in 1984 wounded his former wife in her head area based on verbal conflict. The woman died upon delivery to hospital. 

A 26-year-old man was wounded at his house in Batumi city of Adjara region. The man is placed at hospital. His health condition is reported to be satisfactory. The man was stubbed with a knife in his back three times. Investigation is opened into the case. 

The officers of Kvemo Kartli Police Department as a result of operative-searching and investigative activities detained previously convicted A.Z. for premeditated murder.According to the Ministry, the Rustavi police division was informed that a body was noticed by a fisherman near the bank of River Mtkvari. Law enforcers departed to the place immediately. Investigation was soon launched and proper examinations were scheduled.In the course of investigation police established that the person had been murdered. It was ascertained that A.Z (born in 1987) inflicted an injury with a blunt object in head area to G. DZ. (born in 1994) on the basis of conflict and threw the body in the river in order to conceal the traces of crime, after which he left the crime scene.Law enforcers managed to detain the accused person on the second day in Rustavi.Investigation is in progress on the fact of premeditated murder, article 108 of the Criminal Code.
