Hand-grenade discovered at White Magnolia

A hand-grenade was discovered this afternoon on the territory of White Magnolia block of apartments in Batumi city of Adjara region. An ordinary citizen found the explosive and reported to law-enforcers. Experts of Criminal Police inspected the territory. De-mining works were ongoing during 1 hour. Traffic was blocked. The hand-grenade is sent to expertise.

Man, accused of murdering 4 people in Vachiani, arrested

Javakheti Police Department officers have arrested 24-year-old Nodar A. on the charge of committing premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances. According to the investigation, Nodar A. killed a woman and her three children in the village of Vachiani when trying to rob her house. He hit the victims in their heads after they tried to resist him. According to the preliminary reports, the 5-year-old child was suffocated. The detainee has pleaded guilty. Bodies of a 37-year-old woman and her three children were found in the village of Vachiani, Akhalkalaki district, yesterday. According to reports, the children were aged 5, 16 and 18. Only the woman and the children lived in the house, while the husband of the woman is working in Russia.

Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud.His father, Jorge Messi, was also given a jail term for defrauding Spain of €4.1m (£3.5m; $4.5m) between 2007 and 2009, BBC reports.They also face millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.However, neither man is expected to serve time in jail. Under the Spanish system, prison terms of under two years can be served under probation.The footballer and his father were found guilty of three counts of tax fraud in Wednesday's ruling by the court in Barcelona.As well as the jail terms, Messi was fined about €2m and his father €1.5m. They made a voluntary €5m "corrective payment", equal to the alleged unpaid tax plus interest, in August 2013.The sentence can be appealed through the Spanish Supreme Court. During the trial, Lionel Messi insisted he "knew nothing" about the management of his financial affairs, saying his father dealt with them while he was "playing football".For his part, Jorge Messi claimed he did not have enough knowledge to orchestrate such a fraud, blaming his tax consultants instead.Lionel Messi retired from international football late last month. He has won the Fifa World Player of the Year five times and is one of the richest athletes in the world.

Head of Rustavi City Hall commission detained on bribery charge

Investigative Service of Georgia’s Finance Ministry arrested head of Rustavi land plots commission Grigor Kamkamidze for taking bribe.As reported by the service, investigation determined that the detainee promised a citizen to assist to receive ownership right on one of the land plots in Rustavi municipality, requesting and accepting 2500 GEL (USD 1073) as a bribe.Investigation is in progress according to an article of Georgia’s criminal code that envisages 6-9 years of imprisonment.

Citizen of Turkey, wanted by Ankara Interpol, arrested in Georgia

Tbilisi Interpol and Border Migration Control Division of the Patrol Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested a citizen of Turkey, Ahmet S., wanted under a red notice by Ankara Interpol, when he was trying to leave Georgia by Tbilisi-Istanbul flight. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Ahmet S. is charged under article 197/1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Turkey, pertaining to money counterfeiting. Pre-extradition proceedings are now underway against Ahmet S.

Employee of Ministry of IDPs arrested on bribery charge

Officers of Anti-Corruption Agency of State Security Service arrested Tekla K., employee of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons and Settlement from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees, for taking a bribe in large amounts, Giorgi Kurdadze, the investigator of the case said at a briefing today.According to him, the investigation found that Tekla K. requested and received 7 000 USD from an IDP in exchange of assistance in getting an apartment from the Ministry. The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service has launched an investigation into the case. The detainee faces 5-11 years in prison if convicted.

MIA detains Ukraine’s citizen wanted by INTERPOL

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Ukraine’s citizen wanted by INTERPOL. According to Ministry, Ukrainian citizen Diglam B. born in 1979 was detained when he attempted to leave Georgia and cross the Georgian-Azerbaijani border.As reported he has been on Interpol’s wanted list since 10.12.2015. Diglam B. is accused of intentional damage to health. Pre-extradition procedures are underway at present.

Head of Military Summoning Service of Kaspi Municipality Gamgeoba was detained on fact of taking bribe. The person concluded a corruption deal with two youngsters and took 800 GEL as a bribe in return. One youth was promised postponement of military service, while the other was suggested to pretend to have psychic problems. State Security Service detained five for uranium selling

As a result of jointly conducted activities, the officers of Counter-intelligence Department along with the Special Operations Department under SSG, detained 5 citizens of Georgia in Kobuleti on the fact of illegal selling of the radioactive substance - Uranium.The above mentioned persons were detained as they brought the substance to an apartment in Kobuleti in an attempt to sell it. They were aiming at selling the substance for 3 million USD.Investigation on the fact of illegal handling and selling of nuclear material (Article 230, part I of the Criminal Code of Georgia that envisages from 5 to 10 years of imprisonment) is in progress.Investigation is carried out by Counter-Intelligence Main Investigative Division under the State Security Service of Georgia.Upon Tbilisi City Court decision taken on April 27th, 2016, the detainees were sentenced to imprisonment.

Investigation Department arrests three persons for tax evasion

The Investigation Department of Ministry of Finance have detained Giorgi Bortsvadze, Avtandil Rekhviashvili and Grigol Kurashvili, managers of the oil company “Gunori”.According to the agency, they were detained for avoiding a large amount of taxes through using false documents. “The investigation established that the budget lost 5 138 493 GEL due to tax evasion of the detainees from 15 March 2915 to 11 March 2016”, says the statement of the Investigation Department of the Ministry of Finance. The detainees face jail from 6 to 9 years if convicted.

Corpse discovered in Kojori belongs to person killed 2 years ago

Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports that the corpse of a young man found in yard of one of the houses at Baratashvili Street in Kojori settlement belongs to Guram Kvezereli killed in 2014 in Refugee Settlement of Tbilisi. Kvezereli was brought to Kojori through a lie. He was killed, buried in a barrel and poured an acid. Kvezereli’s mother was killed during the burglary, while her son has been missing since that time. One of the suspects of the crime is detained. The second suspect is wanted. Investigation activities continued at crime scene during the whole night.

No official statement from MIA about corpse discovered in Kojori

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has not yet made an official statement about the discovery of a corpse of a young man found in yard of one of the houses at Baratashvili Street in Kojori settlement. Investigation activities were ongoing during the whole night. Neighbors said that owners did not live in the house and visited Kojori only during the summer. Presumably, the crime is connected to the robbery case in Temka District on the Tbilisi Sea territory in 2014. A woman was killed during the burglary, while her son has been missing since that time.

Five former high-ranking officials detained into case of release of secretly recorded video material reflecting private life were presented charges last night. The number of detainees increased from 5 to 6. Gigla Shioshvili, former Head of Old Tbilisi 7th Department, who was hiding, surrendered to the police. None of the detainees admit to have committed the crime, Lawyer Malkhaz Velijanashvili said.
