The Executive Council of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) releases a statement regarding arrival of Mike Pence, Vice President of United States in Georgia on July 31 with 2-day visit.The statement reads that the visit of US Vice-President and his spouse is very important for the country, GPB will ensure live transmission of all planned meetings and is ready to provide free-of-charge signal to all broadcasters. Interested organizations should apply to technical service of GPB. 

Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) did not violate the Law on Broadcasting and video clip aired by the Broadcaster is a Public Service Announcement (PSA). This is the decision made by the Georgian National Communications Regulation Commission (GNERC).The claimant side has not attended the session today. The members of Free Democrats and the Republicans had submitted the complaint to the National Communications Regulation Commission (GNERC).The case concerned to Public Service Announcement about the constitutional amendments. The claimants argued that the video was not the PSA as it was representing the interests of ruling team; however Commission has not shared their position.

A renovated and integrated newsroom, material-technical refurbishment and new television for 2020 - The presentation of development plan of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) approved by Board of Trustees was held earlier this afternoon. The first stage envisages arrangement of integrated newsroom where journalists of First and Second Channels, Radio and online media will work together. The 4-year-plan will be implemented into three stages. Members of Board of Trustees and management answered questions of journalists after the presentation of the plan.

The Board of Trustees of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) has a new member. The parliament approved the candidacy of Giorgi Iakobashvili with 84 votes for and 2- against on June 30. Other two candidates Akaki Gigineishvili received 33 votes, Lela Piralishvili - 22. The competition for selection of member of Board of Trustees was announced on May 29. 

The Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) unanimously approved the Broadcaster's long-term material-technical refurbishment plan.According tp Vasil Maghlaperidze, the General Director of GPB, a special group is working on technical refurbishment issues and the projects will be implemented in 2017-2020.Maghlaperidze  says that in 2017, about 15-18 million USD will be spent for technical renovation.At the sitting, Teona Mazmishvili, Director of the Production and Technical Maintenance Division, has presented the project plan for 2017-2020. According to Mazmishvili the goal of technical re-equipment is to develop technologies relevant to modern standards.

The demand of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) regarding advertising does not contradict to the legislation - the Georgian National Communications Regulation Commission (GNERC) made this statement.According to Kakha Beqauri, Head of the Commission, news are planned for day-time broadcast programming and in limited amount. The changes are prepared by 13 members of the parliamentary majority. The new version clarifies that GPB has to allocate no less than 25% of its products to programs prepared by private legal juridical persons. The GPB retains the right to carry out research on target audience.  The package of amendments will be discussed starting next week in format of extraordinary sessions. 

The management of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) is holding a meeting with the creative groups of the winner programs for the new TV season at the press club. Vasil Maghlaperidze, the General Director of GPB congratulated the winners and noted that the active preparatory works will be started. Maglaperidze promised the authors of the programs to conduct technical refurbishment of the channel and noted that a unified web platform will be established.The contracts with the new programs will be signed in September, and the contracts for the current winner programs will be prolonged. On June 21, the competition commission revealed the best projects within the framework of a competition for selection of new programs to be aired on Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) starting the new broadcast season.  The commission selected 9 projects. The competition for selection of new programs for 2017-2018 broadcast programming was announced on April 3. 

Akaki Gigineishvili, Giorgi Iakobashvili and Lela Piralishvili are presented as candidates for post of members of Board of Trustees at Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). The parliament will have to approve one person out of the three candidates. The selection commission listened to the candidates on June 22. Discussions were aired by First Channel of GPB. 

The Competition Commission has listened to applicants who wish to become member of Board of Trustees of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). Five applicants submitted an application for the open competition. They are: Film Director Davit Tsintsadze, Business Engineer Giorgi Iakobashvili, lawyer Akaki Gigineishvili, journalist Ia Mamaladze, director of TV and film Mikheil Mrevlishvili, physicist Lela Piralishvili and Orientalist Paata Surguladze.The deadline for submission of application expired on June 13. Tinatin Rukhadze, Director of the National Youth and Children's Palace heads the Commission. Competition Commission has to submit three candidates to the Parliament from which one will be approved by a majority of votes.

The competition commission today revealed the best projects within the framework of a competition for selection of new programs to be aired on Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) starting the new broadcast season.  The commission selected 9 projects. The competition for selection of new programs for 2017-2018 broadcast programming was announced on April 3. 

The parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee is considering changes to be made into Law on Broadcasting. Initiation of the project is planned for this week. Based on the project, authorities and duties of Board of Trustees and General Director of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) will be separated. Changes will apply to purchasing. The law will not apply to purchase of TV-series and non-thematic production. Changes will also refer to commercial advertising and sponsorship. Reportedly, the proposed changes are welcomed by European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Non-governmental organizations are attending the discussions. 

Grigol Gogelia, Chairman of Board of Trustees of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) has presented the 2016 report at the plenary session of the parliament. The report is focused on existing problems in the broadcaster and ways of solving them as well as the plans for establishing the integrated multimedia newsroom.An important part of the report is dedicated to the distribution of funds. The meeting was held in Q/A format. Questions were related to the closure of the programs as well.

Changes are expected in the management of Rustavi 2 TV Company. Based on unofficial information, Nika Gvaramia, General Director of Rustavi 2 has quit post. Feasible changes are said to be linked with financial problems facing the TV Company. One part of the employees said good-bye to Gvaramia through social network on June 8. Gia Karamanashvili, owner of Rustavi 2 is named as a presumable person who will replace Gvaramia on the position. Karamanashvili held a special meeting with employees and journalists this afternoon. Gvaramia keeps silent about his resignation. Rustavi 2 Deputy Director General and anchor Zaal Udumashvili may also quit. He has already received a proposal to run for post of Tbilisi Mayor in the forthcoming local self-governance elections on behalf of National Movement Party. The National Movement Party will present its mayoral candidate next week.  Udumashvili reported that he had not made any decision yet.

The Group for protection of Georgian land will be allocated air-time at Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB). The exact time and program are not decided yet. The group held a protest at GPB earlier this afternoon and this is the result of the meeting with GPB Director General Vasil Maghlaperidze. Maghlaperidze said that GPB covers all important issues and journalists make decisions about coverage format independently. 

The pavilion of Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) is presented at Rustaveli Avenue. “What united us –This is Public Broadcaster” – various programs will be aired live. Any interested person will have the opportunity to participate in live coverage. At the initiative of GPB, the first vides record of "Knight in the Panther’s Skin” a poem by Shota Rustaveli will be made for publication of a video book.
