The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association (GYLA) held a briefing at Media Center. The organization called on citizens to report about any pressure and violation detected during the election process. Second tour of parliamentary elections being held in 50 Majoritarian constituencies

The second round of 2016 parliamentary elections is being in 50 Majoritarian (single mandate) constituencies. There are 18 election constituencies in Tbilisi and 32 – in regions.The second round will determine the final membership of 150-member parliament of Georgia. Patriots’ Alliance does not participate in the second round. The Alliance already has 6 mandates. The United National Movement (UNM) Party has 27 MPs. The UNM has its candidate in 44 constituencies. Georgian Dream has its candidate in 49 constituencies. Topadze-Industrialists and Free Democrats have one candidate each. Independent candidates are competing in three election constituencies.

The second round of 2016 parliamentary elections is being held in Georgia today. The balloting will take place in 50 Majoritarian (single mandate) constituencies where the contenders failed to overcome 50% barrier. There are 18 election constituencies in Tbilisi and 32 – in regions. Candidates of Georgian Dream and UNM Party will compete in 44 constituencies. The first sitting of parliament of the 9th convocation will be held after November 19. The date will be set by Georgia’s President.

State for People political movement of Paata Burchuladze urges voters to support individuals rather than political parties in the second round of parliamentary elections. The movement released a pre-election address. “We believe that serious violations took place during the elections and expression of free will of people was impeded.Nevertheless, State for People urges supporters to take a decision on their free will, by taking into view the country's interests, and to support not political parties but certain individuals, who would better participate in the legislative process.Voters should well realize the needs, dangers and problems facing the country and take appropriate decisions," reads the address.

UNM Majoritarian MP candidate holds press conference

More than 8000 people registered in the Mtatsminda district do not have residential places, are dead or have lived abroad for years, Nika Rurua, Majoritarian candidate of United National Movement (UNM) Party said at a press conference today. "After the first round, we studied all the methods by which the government rigged elections. We will try not to allow the government to use these methods in the second round. Recently they have added 8,000 people in the Mtatsminda district, who do not have any address. Among them are also dead people or those who went abroad years ago,"- Rurua said.According to him, the mentioned people were used in the elections in favour of Salome Zurabishvili, the favorite candidate of the government.  “We will not allow this in the second round. We call on those people not to take part in this fraud”, said Rurua and added that the National Movement is going to publicize the mentioned materials. “These people will be identified. The case will be investigated and offenders will be punished,” Rurua said.
